DRINKING INDOORS – THE VODKA BLUSH

by Sarah Nevada Smith

There are an abundance of cocktails with devilish undertones and sentiments. However, we decided the most fitting of the bunch is the Vodka Blush, a now somewhat dated drink, made briefly popular by it’s appearance in Rosemary’s Baby. By today’s mixology standards, the Blush is by no means impressive, yet like the movie,  it has a certain subtle and layered substance, making it the appropriate choice this week.

The crisp, clean flavor the alcohol is subdued by the acidity in the fresh lime, which multitasks giving a refreshing gimlet quality to the drink. But before you can say “gimlet,  the slight sweetness of the grenadine changes the flavor into something a bit more sophisticated, complex and mysterious. Since the drink is primarily vodka, you may feel your cheeks getting warm and the next thing you know, you’ll be ordering seconds. So drink up, you deserve it.

Serve as the an alternative to the standard champagne toast this holiday season and get into a bit of trouble…
